PostHeaderIcon back support & mattress help?

[I have slight back pain and I'm redoing my bed]
-I have a mattress that is slightly old but has really only been slept in 10 to 15 times, is it still like new?
-I got all new pillows which should be good for my neck and head support.
-I also got a feather bed mattress top, are these supportive at all or are they just for comfort
-do you think that these things will help with my back pains [which i think was mainly caused by sleeping on a bad mattress with old pillows]
-what else should I do

forget the feathers go to wal mart get a foam topper memory foam depending on size they are about 60 dollars you wont regret it, and get a pillow out of same foam stiff to start with but they loosen up. Try the cheap way first thats my answer

I have a really bad back too. It could be caused by a lot of things. I get a massage once a month, wish it could be more, and I sleep on the couch a lot, not that I would recommend that. You might be better off getting an egg crate pad and put the hospital pad thing over it. Other than that, also do some stretching or even yoga. If all of that fails, Your Box Springs might be messed up too. Try putting a piece of plywood underneath your mattress, cause you may be sinking in, thats what caused my back pains when i was younger.

if the bed is no longer flat, then its probably not good for your back.
feather mattress top feels fluffy but sags, and ads to the curve of the back.

Sleep on your side, with your knees together. (fetal positon).
use pillows between your knees if you still have back pain.

I know it sounds extreme but put a board under the mattress in the places where the sags are to get rid of them. – that will help flatten it out and make it firmer. (new mattresses are expensive).

Stay away from caffeine in the afternoons, take motrin for pain if you have to. Icyhot or some other balms work well too. The key thing is to find a position with no pain, and stay there for your back to heal – if it is something persistent. Doans pills help relieve tention in the back muscles too.

Also, before getting out of bed – lay on your back, bend your knees and move them from side to side – 10 x – and that will loosten your muscles for getting out of bed. – if you have cronic back pain.

the topper may not be good what you need to do is put an old pillow from a couch under the foot area of the mattress this will lift the foot area and will make your back seem better you do not have to lay on your back for this to help. good luck
